Description
This art piece is a statement on the impact corona virus is having on the environment. As we humans put ourselves first. We use extreme amounts of masks and PPE gear, medical supplies, and cleaning products on a daily basis. Due to medical bio-hazards risk, none of these materials can be reused or recycled. In fact, these PPE gear and masks contain plastics and have to be burned in order to keep humans safe from infection. This burning of plastics is polluting our air. The making of, and disposing of these materials is destroying the environment and polluting air and our oceans killing sea animals and birds. And creating health problems for humans and animals.
“Globally, 65 billion gloves are used every month. The tally for face masks is nearly twice that—129 billion a month. That translates into 3 million face masks used per minute.
A separate study reports that 3.4 billion face masks or face shields are discarded every day.”
Face masks, gloves, and wipes are made from multiple plastic fibers, primarily polypropylene, that will remain in the environment for decades, possibly centuries, fragmenting into smaller and smaller microplastics and nanoplastics.
Not to mention the PPE clothing and shoe covers. Surgical equipment such as surgery masks and syringes. And cleaning products used to keep us and medical professionals safe in hospital and medical clinics”

How sustainable is this going to be for the planet? As we save ourselves from corona virus we continue to increase our destruction of this planet and the animals in it. Which in turn will lead to sped up global warming and pollution that will also result in human deaths. What can we do to change our daily waste around the world. How can we become more sustainable?
